Cloud Connected IoT Rolls

The successful collaboration between the internationally active medium-sized company HÄHL GmbH and Medialesson led to the development of the pioneering product “Cloud Connected IoT Rolls”, which connects the company's rollers to the cloud. The rolls are in use at various locations, including Sweden and China. Equipped with a large number of sensors, the rolls continuously supply sensor data at several measuring points. This data is recorded in near real time and evaluated in the cloud. Innovative calculations are used to evaluate the performance of the rollers, which is sent to Power BI and visualized on meaningful dashboards. This advanced technology enables HÄHL GmbH to support its customers in continuously maintaining the quality of their products at the highest level and thus taking a leading position in the market.

Technical implementation
The solution was planned and developed in close cooperation with the HÄHL team. The infrastructure is continuously prepared using IaC (infrastructure as code) and then updated with the various application components. Before a productive version is released, tests check the full functionality of the solution in a separate test environment. The Azure IoT Hub is used for real-time processing of the extensive sensor data. Additional values are then calculated using Azure Stream Analytics Jobs. The results are sent to the customer's Power BI platform via Azure Functions and visualized there. All functions are accessible via REST APIs, which are secured by Microsoft Entra ID, among other things.
